My Dear General by TheBrassGlass My Dear General by TheBrassGlass
Fun fact: Lafayette was about the only person Washington would allow to hug him, and the young marquis took advantage of it a great deal!

This drawing was made as a birthday present for a friend; the two generals having a relaxed moment at Valley Forge. Goodness knows, there wasn't a whole lot to be happy about that winter.

Micron ink pens, Crayola markers, two Prismacolors (that's all I can afford), my new Bic markers, and one white gel pen. :3 No references used for this pic, but you will see the influence of a certain engraving in Lafayette's face.

This is also a call-out to *Cszemis. I miss you, my Laf! :huggle:

Ah :iconloveloveplz:

You out do yourself more and more and make this heart of mine melt! I adore these two together, what amazing friends and one of the best father-son relationships I've ever seen! I had already known the hug fact but still it makes me laugh to think that Lafayette was the only person allowed to hug him. I had read that one time Hamilton had attempted but was rejected xD

Thank you! They are my favorite to see, especially enjoying eachothers company! I can only beg that you draw them again soon

I think I just died from something... not sure whether it was Washington's "Oh, all right. Just one hug, then." expression, or the fact that the lovely Marquis was the only person Washington allowed to hug him! That's possibly one of the most adorable historical things I've ever heard, coming in close after Robespierre's ode to cake!
I. LOVE YOU FOR THIS! Nuff said. *dies again*

Have you heard Robespierre's ode to tarts?

Haha, yes! :XD: "Of all forms of ingratitude of which the human race is guilty towards its benefactors, it is this one that always revolts me and it is amongst Artesians that it must be atoned for since they are judged throughout Europe to know best, of all the peoples of the world, the worth of a simple tart. "

Oh Robespierre. You and your weirdness. :happycry:

DEAR GOD YES :happycry:

After I read it for the first time, I couldn't eat tart or cake with a straight face for weeks afterwards. I just have this funny image of Robespierre nomnomnomming his way through endless pastries, until he gets one of those little fat bellies you see on cartoons!

OHHH did you see 'War with the French' the other night?! It had actors for William Pitt, Napoleon and Robespierre, and almost every time the scene centred on Robespierre, he was eating a plate of oranges. IT. WAS. HILARIOUS!

I was watching something like 'The War with the French' and it's called: 'French and Indian War Changes Fate of America'
I hope you will like it. It mentions William Pitt, Washington and other interesting figures... :D

Though I really REALLY can't stand this whole Rule 34 with historical figures (especially in this case when Washington in reality regarded Lafayette as a son rather than a lover) I respect your artistic interpretation and I absolutely love the rendering of the features.
(TBH I'm no better, I'm pursuing a 'Hotties of the Revolution' Calendar...so I am also kinda quirked in the head)

I think it (the picture, that is) can be interpreted both ways; it was drawn for a friend who is a fan of the slash, but I can't see it myself. As you say, I feel like they were much more a father-and-son team. :)

Anyway, do you mean you're drawing a hotties of the revolution calendar? I'm adding you to my watch list right away!

Aww that is so adorable...the fact that stern ole Washington would let that charismatic Frenchman into his heart like that. I've read that he even viewed the Marquis as his own son

This is great, so wonderful and I'm so happy because you drew two of my most favorite historical figures and heroes. Thank you so much, this was cute and well drawn, great idea!

Now that's interesting - I didn't know that "Fun Fact", but now that I do...that's just priceless. lol

I have to second some of the other commentors here and ask where you found that out from - I'd love to have a look at the information myself. I don't know much on the historical figures from the American Revolutionary War, but I'm trying to learn more and I LOVE the more anecdotal stories like this.

Thanks! Coming from you, that is definitely an honor! XD The person I drew this for is a fan of the slash. I'm not so much (at least, not with this pair), so I wanted to make it kind of ambiguous because it is true--there's tons of first-hand accounts of people being rather shocked at Lafayette's straightforward displays of affection for Washington. XD So, there you go, I guess. XD
